Yes, you can use Xero to connect your Shopify store. If you do this, you will be able to do your accounting without any problems. And it is also done by itself. Once you’ve done this, you’ll be able to make your business more efficient, make invoices, figure out your taxes, and export summaries of your sales.
How do you do this, though?
Today, I’ll show you how to make these two programs work together. I will also tell you about some Xero apps that you can use with Shopify to help you run your business better and more efficiently.
How to link Xero and Shopify
Sign up for an A2X account. This is the first thing you need to do. A2X is a company that makes an app that lets you connect Xero and Shopify. Sign in if you already have an account. If you don’t already have one, you’ll need to sign up and then choose A2X for Shopify, as shown below.
You can use your Google or Intuit account to sign in, or you can keep signing up with Xero. If you don’t have an account yet, click “Continue with New Account.” If not, click “Continue to Existing Account.”
After you sign up, the system will ask you again to click “Continue to Your New Account.” From here, you’ll have to click “Continue to Shopify.”
From here, Shopify will ask you to type in the name of your store. This is how you sign in to Shopify. Again, this is not your email address; it is the name of your Shopify store.
The next step is to check that the A2X app is installed in your Shopify admin. From there, you have to give this app permission to work. If you haven’t installed it yet, you’ll need to do that first. After that, you’ll need to authorize the app. Once the two are connected, you have to move on and then choose Connect to Xero, as shown below:
If you already have a Xero account that is linked to a business, you can connect that account, or you can connect a new business.
If you chose the second option, you have to sign in to your Xero account. If you don’t already have a Xero account, you’ll need to make one first because the system will ask you to sign in.
Once you’ve done this, the system will ask you to choose which company or organization you want to link to your Shopify store. Lastly, click on the blue button that says “Allow Access.”
And that’s the end. Both are now linked, so you can take advantage of everything Xero has to offer.
How do you connect Xero and Shopify to apps?
A lot of people don’t seem to understand how Xero works. To be clear, there is no direct way to link Xero to Shopify. You have to use third-party apps to make sure that your Shopify and Xero accounts are in sync.
The apps you can use are listed below.
A2X
We’ve already talked about this. A2X is automation software that works for both Amazon and Shopify. With A2x, you will be able to see how your Shopify store is doing financially. From there, you’ll be able to see your sales, expenses, taxes, and more.
A2X is a program that is used to keep track of money. You can use it on online stores like Shopify, Amazon, eBay, and Walmart.
Bold
Bold Commerce is the second app that lets you connect Xero and Shopify. It syncs your Shopify orders and their details with your Xero account automatically. The information that gets sent includes sales, taxes, and even discounts that you offered. All of these details are sent to your Xero account, so you can keep track of how your e-commerce business is doing.
Parex
Parex is the third app you can add to your Shopify admin that will help you connect Xero. You can do the following with Parex Bridge:
- Get your Shopify sales and Xero account to sync automatically every day. This includes customer information, products, orders, taxes, and more.
- Do order sync. The system will keep track of any orders that have already been paid for or that will be paid for later. You won’t lose money because you forgot to write down this prepaid order, and you won’t forget to send it to your customer either. Also, all cancellations will be taken into account.
- In Xero, you can make individual customer records for your Shopify customers. With this, information about your customers, like new orders, will be added to your Xero account.
So far, these are the only three apps you can use to connect your Shopify account and your Xero account. Any of them will work. In the end, what matters most is that you move your Shopify data to Xero. This will help you get a better handle on your accounting tasks.
Summary
Is it a good idea to connect Xero and Shopify? Yes, it does make sense for businesses of a certain size. If you do your accounting work by hand, you probably won’t have a bad level of accuracy.
Accounting is hard, and we all know it. If your business is small and you only sell a few things each month, you can do the accounting on your own. But if you’re already handling hundreds or thousands of orders, you should really think about automating your accounting.
You can connect Xero to your Shopify store with the help of three main apps. Before you can start the integration, you need to have an account with one of these three apps. Also, you have to put them in your Shopify store first. So, these systems will be able to find your account and link your Xero account to your Shopify store.
